As you can imagine, there was a lot of travel time required, as well as time to arrange our own travel, food, and accommodation. We usually made arrangements a few days in advance, which saved money and gave us flexibility; however, several times hotels or trains were sold out which forced us to change plans.
I'll talk about the trip by theme first, then describe each city we visited in order. Here are the planned entries:
Rah, Rah, Rasputin - Expectations of Russia
New and Old - Russian society
Poisoned Palaces - Urban Russia
Here, There, and Everywhere - Rural Russia
Blood, Sweat, and Tears - Russian history
The Children of Cyril - Russian language
50 Million Serfs, 1 World-Class Art Collector - Russian art (pre-1917)
Backlashes - Russian art (post-1917)
Feed Me - Food and drink in Russia
Travails - Travel and accommodation in Russia
Lost Baggage - Final thoughts on Russia
I'll list prices in Canadian dollars; 1 dollar ~ 23 roubles
